Matt and I bought our first home in 2016 and I have absolutely loved everything about turning our house into our home. I am such a homebody and working from home has always been a huge bucket list item for me. While there are challenges that I am still working through, I love the freedom it’s brought to our lives and I am so grateful.
Here are a few things that I’ve learned make my life so much easier:
- Set a schedule and stick to it – sleeping in on a work day is never a good idea. This has been really tough for me and, to be completely honest, I’m still working on it. Matt and I are working towards waking up earlier so instead of him taking his breakfast to go, we sit down to enjoy it together. I’m so excited about this and encourage you to do the same. Being intentional with our time is so, so important.
- Have a dedicated office space – but give yourself the grace to work from bed (or the couch) every so often, just not everyday. Pretty much every single day during my first year working from home, I worked in bed. True story. Doing this made it really, really hard to disconnect at the end of the day.
- Let yourself take intentional breaks – a few of my favorite ways to take a break are by taking Abbie for a walk, making a chai tea latte and reading a book, and watching TV.
Do you work from home? I would love to hear your tips, too!
