I was so excited when my sweet friend and client, Kat Schmoyer, asked me to join her in Tybee Island, Georgia, for her first ever Conference Intensive!! Kat has the biggest heart for education and getting to serve so many amazing creative entrepreneurs along side of her is such an honor. We spent the week learning the ins and outs of conference planning, working on exciting business projects, venturing to Savannah, and lounging on the beach chatting about business, life, and #allthethings. Owning my own business AND working from home has always been a big dream of mine but having the opportunity to travel and share this journey with like-minded creatives has been the icing on the cake.

A few things I learned about myself (and my business) in Tybee Island:

  1. We can’t do business alone – yes, most of the time we know what’s best for our business but we aren’t always considering all of our options. Since launching my new brand by With Grace & Gold, I naively thought that was enough. I didn’t think that other business owners wanted to hear from me other than what I had written on my about page. I am so shy and have always been afraid to open up so the thought of starting a blog and a newsletter community absolutely terrifies me. Being able to work through these fears with other small business owners who felt the same was completely eye-opening and I am so grateful for the advice and encouragement they gave me. I will always turn to Matt to make our business decisions together but also having a tribe of other small business owners to turn to for support and with questions is absolutely crucial to successfully moving forward and growing.
  2. I am super productive when traveling – anyone else? I got so much accomplished while we were away (hello, new website!) and definitely want to make working retreats happen more often!
  3. Communicating is so much easier for me in one-on-one situations versus group chats. True story – the introvert in me got really tired on this trip; but I learned that I absolutely love one-on-one connections. Kat’s Conference Intensive attendees had so many ideas to share and having the opportunity to listen, brainstorm, and offer support to them was really special and I’m so glad that I got to spend this time with them.
